History

The “Society of Indian Neuroscience Nurses” (SINN) is a sub-section of Neurological Society of India (NSI). NSI came into existence in 1951 by founder members Late Dr. Jacob Chandy (Neurosurgeon), Dr. Baldev Singh (Neurologist) from C.M.C. Hospital, Vellore and Dr. S.T. Narasimhan (Physician and Electrophysiologist) and Late Dr. B. Ramamurthi (Neurosurgeon) from Madras Medical College & Hospital.

In 1979, a nucleus of association of Neuro-nurses in India (as associate members of NSI) was created at National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) during 29th annual conference of NSI and decided to hold Nurses Conference as part of the annual conference of the Society. This annual “Satellite Conference of Neuro-nurses of India” provided a forum for Indian neuro-nurses to exchange views on how to set high standards of care for nurses in this speciality and broaden their horizon of knowledge and practice.

In 1988, this sub-section got registered with the Registrar of Firms and Societies, Chandigarh under Act 21 of 1860 as No. 1550 of 1988 and this has been named as “Society of Indian Neuroscience Nurses” (SINN).
